We had a good Christmas, with a minimum of familial friction, despite financial crises and inflexible and demanding work schedules. There's one more family gathering to attend tomorrow, and then it will all be over. I plan on leaving my tree up as usual until January sixth, so as to enjoy it in peace. No doubt I will be expected by certain parties to pack it away as soon as I get home tomorrow, but certain parties may do as they please, and please leave me out of it.
The children all had bountiful gifts. They got a lot of books, especially Isaac, and some games. Becky and Isaac both got scooters, and the girls got dolls. In addition to two Barbies (Both were naked within a day) Becky got a doll that communicates in a variety of pre-programmed ways and responds to various stimuli with appropriate responses. Kaely got one that sucks on a pacifier with noise and movement, but I think it rather made her nervous. The doll bed she got is now filled to the brim with sleeping dolls. Isaac got a telescope, which he was quite excited about. He discovered the joys of astronomy this year. The area we live in now has few lights at night, and on a clear night the view is - excuse the pun - stellar. He watched the peak night of the Orionids with us in October and saw no less than six shooting stars himself. He often remarks now that he'd like to consider being an astronaut.
My constant suggestion of a gift card for Books A Million actually got through to one person. My sister-in-law got me a bag of nice coffee and a nice travel mug with a gift card tucked inside. Ahh, the joy of new books! Hubby is quite proud of himself for suggesting it to her. There are still a pile of presents under our tree from my family, which we will open with the children tomorrow after work. I know I got another book, but not what book it is.
Merry Christmas all, and a Happy New Year.
